On Thursday, February 27, Woodland Heights Medical Center kicked off its annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive benefiting East Texas Food Bank. The hospital is inviting community members to participate in this effort to fight hunger in the local area.

Peanut butter is a sought-after item for food banks because of its high nutritional value and long shelf life. Yet, it is one of the least donated items. The Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive will continue through Monday, March 24.

“Woodland Heights Medical Center not only supports the patients who come through our doors, we are also committed to supporting better health throughout our community,” said Jose Echavarria, CEO, Woodland Heights Medical Center.

“An estimated one in six East Texans, including one in four children, are facing food insecurity, which has a profound impact on overall health and well-being. With the Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive, we can help a vital community organization reduce hunger in our area.”

In addition to the Administration office at Woodland Heights, Brookshire Brothers has graciously offered collection sites at four of its local grocery stores. This includes their locations in Lufkin in the Gaslight Plaza as well as on Chestnut Drive. The Brookshire Brothers in Diboll and Huntington are also participating as drop off sites.

“We appreciate the partnership with Brookshire Brothers and look forward to working with our community to help our friends and neighbors in need,” added Echavarria.
