It's been quite I while since my high school prom.  George Strait did not have a number one song yet.  So, it was a night of slow dancing to Lionel Richie, Air Supply, and REO Speedwagon.  My kids have seen a few surviving pictures from that night and they are amazed that I actually fit into that three piece suit, and for that matter, that I actually chose to wear that suit.

Fashion statement or not, forty years have passed since that prom, but it's still ingrained in my memory. For those in high school, it's a rite of passage, and in 2020, it passed most students right on by. Thankfully, businesses and volunteers across the area are endorsing the 'better late than never' policy and trying to bring prom opportunities to area students and graduates.

This Saturday in the Courtyard in Downtown Lufkin, Rubie&Jane is hosting a free prom.  It is titled “Light the Night” Prom 2020 and high school age prom goers are welcome to attend this free event! The Courtyard is an outdoor venue located next door to The Pines Theater and  across from Rubie&Jane on First Street.  This is a free event, but space is limited, so reserving a spot is suggested.

Heavy C Entertainment will provide the music from 8-10 pm, The Big Picture Event Planning & Rentals will have a photo booth set up, and OH SNAP Photography will also be there providing downtown street light pictures.

Light the Night 2020 will coincide with Downtown Lufkin's First StrEAT Feast so First Street will be closed for activities associated with that.
