Congratulations are in order for George Strait, who just added yet another number one record to his awe-inspiring list of chart-topping hits.

Strait’s new album, ‘Here for a Good Time,’ debuted on top of the Billboard country charts this week, surging past Jason Aldean and Jake Owen with more than 91,000 copies sold.

‘Here for a Good Time,’ Strait’s 39th studio release, becomes his eighth straight number one album — and, counting soundtracks and assorted compilations, his 24th overall. The set’s first single, the title track, is already number eight on the country singles chart.

Sales for ‘Here for a Good Time’ were impressive enough to put it at number three on Billboard’s overall Top 200 chart, behind Lil Wayne‘s ‘Tha Carter IV’ and Adele‘s ’21′ — but they reflect the downward trend for CD sales, adding up to a 40 percent drop from Strait’s last album, 2009′s ‘Twang.’

Still, a number one album is nothing to sneeze at. Strait should enjoy his lofty perch while he’s got it. Next week, Lady Antebellum‘s ‘Own the Night’ stands a good chance of owning the charts, too.
