High Valley Share Sweet Family Stories During WE Fest Set
High Valley got personal during Saturday's (Aug. 6) early afternoon set at WE Fest 2016. The sibling duo gushed about their families, but especially the support of their father, in between songs.
Brad and Curtis Rempel may have very different lives today if it wasn't for the selflessness of their dad. The Canadian duo of brothers slowed things down during their set at WE Fest before their song "The Only Way He Knew How." Sitting on barstools, they told a story about how their father mortgaged his farm in 2000 so they could fly to Nashville to record their first album. They dedicated the touching song to him.
"We're incredibly thankful for that man," Brad told the audience of the man who made it possible for them to fulfill their "wildest dreams."
Their dreams continue to come true, as they'll soon be hearing their song, "Young Forever," in the popular video game, Madden NFL 17. This means the most to lead vocalist Brad, because both of his sons play tackle football.
"Nothing makes you feel older than having kids, but nothing is more beautiful," he explained with a big smile before introducing the track. High Valley wrote the song after Brad spent a day at the beach with his kids — a time when he felt very young.
High Valley's set also included a stripped-down, full-band version of "I Fly Away," a cover of John Michael Montgomery's "Be My Baby Tonight" and, of course, "Make You Mine" (which is available on iTunes). The daytime festival crowd were happy to clap along to the well-dressed duo, dancing to songs both new and old. A few women could even be heard saying "aww" after they told stories about their children and father. It was a memorable performance from an up-and-coming duo.
WE Fest closes Saturday night with a headlining performance by Tim McGraw, to be preceded by an announcement of headliners for next year's event.
