Motorists Alerted of Traffic Changes Coming to Highway 59

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is alerting East Texas motorists about some traffic changes on the horizon for Highway 59 between Diboll and Lufkin.

Work on the Diboll Relief Route is scheduled to see a traffic switch in the coming days as the project continues. Alternating lane closures are set on Highway 59 at John Means Road to Morris Road in Burke, Texas.

However, beginning May 14, weather permitting, traffic will be diverted to the newly constructed ramp for the next several months, as crews continue to work on the relief route direct connect at Highway 59. Motorists are urged to stay alert for directional signage, reduce speed and obey all traffic control through this work zone.

Work will also continue to form nearby embankments, topsoil and ditches through the detour at the direct connect. Crews will treat the subgrade with cement/lime on northbound lanes near Conner Road and on FM 2108. Work to tie-in the main lanes at US 59 with concrete and hot mix at approach slabs is also scheduled.

The Diboll Relief Route is an 8-mile construction project that began in April 2020, and is on schedule to be completed in 2025, weather permitting. Sacyr Construction USA, LLC, is serving as the contractor for the $140.8 million construction project.

The project consists of the construction of a new freeway location on Highway 59 in Angelina County, from FM 2108 to 1.1 miles south of White Oak Creek. Work includes construction of the new freeway, grading, structures, concrete pavement, and freeway signage.
