How Cheer Teams Are Scored

Cheer squads are scored in three categories for their routines: Fight Song, Crowd Leading, and Band Chant. All teams perform in the preliminary round, and those with the highest cumulative scores advance to the finals.  In Class 4A, Division II, a total of 20 teams advanced to the championship round. The Hudson cheer team was 1 of only 4 teams to score at least 190 points in the preliminary round.

In the championship round, scoring is a little different as the scores for the three categories are averaged. The Hudson Cheer Team had a final score of 90.10, good for the Bronze Trophy. Texarkana Pleasant Grove finished second with a score of 90.23, while Lago Vista was first with a score of 90.47. Hudson Cheer had the highest mark in the Band Chant/Fight Song category average.

Preparation for this competition requires countless hours of rigorous training. The sacrifice put forth by these young ladies, along with their coaches and sponsors, can not be overstated. Hudson Cheer performed their routine at a few Hudson basketball games leading up to the UIL competition, giving Hudson fans a chance to see their award-winning performance.

This season's 3rd-place finish matches Hudson's highest ever at the UIL Spirit Championships. The Hornets also finished 3rd in both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons.
