Hudson, PCA Swim Teams Excel at Regionals, Advance to State Meet
The Texas UIL Conference 4A, Region 3 Swimming and Diving Meet was held on January 26 & 27 at the McDonald family Aquatic Center on the campus of Lamar High School in Houston.
Athletes representing Deep East Texas were among the 25 teams competing at this event. After all was said and done, swimmers from Hudson High School and Pineywoods Community Academy High School punched their tickets to the state meet in San Antonio.
A total of four regions had their meets this past weekend. The top two finishers in each of the twenty-two races advanced to the upcoming state meet in San Antonio. Additionally, 8 overall call-ups received state invites based on their times. That's a total of 16 qualifiers for each race to be held at the state meet.

- Gunnar Durham, Hudson - 1st place, 200 Boys Freestyle
- Shepard Smith, Hudson - 2nd place, 500 Boys Freestyle
- Kasie Lopez, Hudson - 2nd place, 200 Girls Individual Medley
- Kasie Lopez, Hudson - 2nd place, 100 Girls Breaststroke
- Hudson - 2nd place, Boys 400 Freestyle Relay (Shepard Smith, Vicente Lara, David Egner, Gunnar Durham)
- Hudson - 2nd place, Girls 200 Medley Relay (Kaylee Snider, Kasie Lopez, Lauren Hansen, Cullen Merrell)
- Hudson - 1st place, Girls 400 Freestyle Relay (Cullen Merrell, Lauren Hansen, Kaylee Snider, Kasie Lopez)
- Pineywoods Community Academy, 2nd place, Boys 200 Medley Relay (Conner Robinson, Bryan Campbell, Landon Campbell, Ashton Martin-Kibbey)
- Pineywoods Community Academy, 1st place, Boys 400 Freestyle Relay (Landon Campbell, Conner Robinson, Ashton Martin-Kibbey, Bryan Campbell)
- Bryan Campbell, Pineywoods Community Academy - 2nd place, Boys 100 Butterfly
- Landon Campbell, Pineywoods Community Academy - 2nd place, Boys 100 Breaststroke
- Hudson - Call Up - Girls 200 Freestyle Relay (Kaylee Snider, Lauren Hansen, Alexis Galvan, Cullen Merrell)
As for the overall team standings at the Region 3 event, the Hudson girls finished 2nd overall, the Hudson boys took 3rd, and the boys from PCA finished 5th.
Hudson Coach Tonya Rigby was named Region 3 Female Coach of the Year.
The UIL Conference 4A State Meet will be held on February 9 & 10 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
The swim teams from Lufkin and Nacogdoches will compete in the Conference 5A, Region 4 Meet at the New Caney ISD Natatorium on February 3 & 4.
