Is The Largest Manger In The World Now In Lufkin, Texas?
In Lufkin we were known for Rudolph The Red Nose Pumping Unit on Loop 287. The old Lufkin Industries' pumping unit is still up, but it's been downtown for the past few years.
Now there is another monolith on the loop. This time instead of a red-nosed reindeer pulling Santa's Sleigh, it's more biblical.
Over the weekend volunteers from Timber Creek Church erected this over 20-foot tall manger in front of their Lufkin campus. Now we are waiting to see what comes next.
World Record?
If you google the largest manger ever, a lot of things pop up. Most of them have to do with the entire nativity scene. When you drill down to the largest manger, a church in San Antonio built a 20 X 20 wooden manger in 2018 that looks much like this one.
The one in Lufkin is by my estimates at least 22 to 24 feet high. It could be even higher. Timber Creek Church in Lufkin might just be getting a visit from the Guinness World Records.
It brings new meaning to the drive through nativity scene. Joseph would have to be over 70 feet tall to use this manger. I don't think that is in the plans.
I am still hopeful we might get a big baby Jesus.
Away in a manger
No crib for a bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head
This manger really gets you in the singing mood when going around the loop. I can imagine kids and parents alike will join in, while they make the drive around Lufkin this Christmas.
