A woman's body was just discovered in a Houston bayou, marking the 6th body found in the past 2 weeks in the city's waterways.

Could there be a serial killer in Houston?

So far, there isn't evidence that the deaths are related, but that isn't stopping online speculation from concerned citizens. People are totally freaked out.

The 6th Body

Houston police responded to a 911 call around 11:30 pm from a group of people riding scooters who happened to notice there was a body in the water under a bridge in Buffalo Bayou, near the University of Houston-Downtown campus.

The HPD Dive Team later recovered the body, which so far has only been identified as that of a female. Her cause of death is currently under investigation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Science.

Sinister Coincidence?

Lieutenant A. Khan of the Houston Police Department indicated that there were currently no signs pointing toward a serial killer in Houston. However, finding 6 bodies in bayous in the Houston area over 2 weeks is rather extreme.

5 Other Bayou Bodies Found

  • On Monday, September 15th, the Houston Fire Department responded to a call at a canal located in the 13400 block of the East Freeway, in the area of the North Shore/Cloverleaf, near Greens Bayou.
  • On the same day, a second body was found in Brays Bayou, at 4998 Medical Service Drive.
  • On Sept 16th, a body was found in White Oak Bayou at 2309 Taylor Street. The person is believed by authorities to have drowned.

  • On Thursday, September 18th, the body of 20-year-old Jade "Sage" McKissic was found on Spur 5, only 2.5 miles away from Brays Bayou. McKissic was a junior majoring in advertising as well as a campus resident and student employee. She was reported missing 4 days before her discovery. An autopsy revealed no signs of foul play or trauma, but her cause of death is still under investigation.
  • On Saturday, September 20th, another body was discovered in a bayou at the 900 block of N York Street. HPD found the body at approximately 8 am, but the circumstances surrounding it have yet to be released to the public.

Mayor Speaks Out

Earlier in the week, Houston Mayor John Whitmire and the Houston Police Department Chief Noe Diaz stressed that there was no evidence found of a serial killer in Houston in an attempt to put online speculation to rest. Authorities also mentioned that several homeless encampments have been included in the department's ongoing investigation into the bodies found in the Bayou.

If you have any information regarding these cases, please call HPD or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
