If you have driven into Nacogdoches, Texas in the past few weeks you might have seen a radar speed sign and an older model Nacogdoches Police Tahoe in the middle of the median. The construction in the area has a speed limit of 45 MPH.

For years the construction of Interstate 69 / Highway 59 has kept that area at 45 MPH. Not many people driving through the area kept it down to that speed.

Both times that I passed the police vehicle in the past week, no one was inside.  However, the traffic coming toward Nacogdoches was going noticeably slower.

Don't Take A Chance, Slow Down When Coming Into Nacogdoches

I am sure many police departments across Texas would love to have more officers. They have calls and other emergent tasks to address rather than babysit an area where everyone speeds, even though drivers know the risk.

Cars regularly drive over 60 MPH on that stretch of highway leading to Nacogdoches. Speeding in a construction zone with workers present doubles the normal ticket.

If you were to get pulled over there doing 65, your ticket would be almost $500. Are you willing to bet that there is no officer in that police car every time you come into town?
