  • Keeping your vehicle in working order is always a good idea.
  • What can you do to avoid a cracked windshield
  • It could lead to a ticket if it's bad enough

It has happened to all of us at one point or another. You are driving along and BANG a rock gets thrown by another vehicle and hits your windshield. Spider web cracks appear on the windshield immediately.

I have gone through this so many times, and it just makes your heart drop. You go through all the stages of grief, but mostly you are worried about how much time and money it's going to cost.

There are many different laws in the state of Texas that have to do with the state of your vehicle. If you don't have the money to correct the issue immediately, what could happen?

Will I Fail My Inspection If My Windshield Is Cracked In Texas?

Actually, the windshield is one of the things that is not inspected when you go to do the Texas Two Step. You should have no issues getting your vehicle inspected with a few cracks.

You could fail the inspection if the crack in your glass is so bad that it makes it hard to see when you drive. Also if your smashed windshield causes damage to your windshield wipers, that could cause you to fail as well.

If your windshield is smashed so badly it is deformed you could get a ticket. If it's unsafe to drive you could get pulled over.

How Can I Prevent A Cracked Windshield?

If you think you get more rocks to the windshield than most people, it could be your driving style. The faster you drive, the more likely the rock that hits your glass makes a crack.

When you see someone heading toward the shoulder of the highway in front of you, that's where rocks live. Slow down and get as far away from them as possible.

Don't tailgate, and watch out for large trucks with wheels that stick out beyond the fenders of the vehicle. Sometimes things happen and are unavoidable, but I am usually mashing on the accelerator when I get a rock in the windshield.
