Looking around your garage or shed, you might find some items that have been there for a long time. Things like paint and old car batteries that you can't just put out in the trash can build up over time.

If you have had a can of paint for over 5 years, it's time to think about when you will use it again. Some types of latex or acrylic paint could last up to 10 years, but they have to be stored correctly.

Paint isn't the only hazardous material you might have laying around the house. In Lufkin, there is an event coming up so you can dispose of these materials correctly.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event Is Coming Up

Since you aren't having to mow and do yard maintenance this time of year, it's a perfect time to go through your home and see if there are some things you can dispose of. Angelina Beautiful/Clean's (AB/C) hazardous waste collection is coming up to help you lighten your load.

They will be accepting the following items at their event on March 4, 2023 from 9 AM to 12 PM. It will be held at the City of Lufkin Recycling Center at 500 Southpark Drive, off of College Drive in Lufkin.

Accepting paints, automobile batteries, household cleaners, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, other hazardous household products, white goods (old appliances, refrigerators, stoves, hot water heaters), and electronic wastes (printers, scanners, Palm accessories, power supplies, battery backups, cables, toner/ink cartridges, hard drives, CD-ROMs, speakers, VCRs, DVD players, stereo equipment, video game consoles, digital cameras, any audio or video equipment, networking equipment, tape drives, test equipment, fax machines, keyboards, voice/tape recorders, radios, Walkman products, calculators, cellular phones, and phone accessories)
Motor oil, antifreeze, and cooking oil will be accepted.

This is only for households. Large quantities of items from businesses, farms, or commercial operations of any kind will not be accepted.

They will also not be taking tires, medical or infectious waste, biological and radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, TVs, computer monitors, or explosives.

They will be accepting approved waste from anyone in the surrounding Texas counties. If you show up with waste, they will take it off your hands as long as it meets the aforementioned requirements.
