Over the past few months on University Drive in Nacogdoches, a new structure has been built in front of the University Plaza - Once upon a time the University Mall, for those of you that weren't sure about the plaza name. It's not like there was a lot of speculation about what the new building was going to be. Signs went up soon after construction started, and the shape of the structure didn't leave much room for curiosity.

It was obviously a new automatic car wash, and the signs showed the name to be Sud Daddeez. It sits on the hillside in front of the plaza, where the old Tobacco Barn building sat for years. The sign out front says "Now Open" and the website says their hours are from 7:30 AM - 7:00 PM, so I'd say that it's now official.

Nacogdoches Isn't the First Sud Daddeez Location

According to the Sud Daddeez website, Nacogdoches isn't the first location to have one operating in it. Nacogdoches is actually the fifth, with other locations in Floresville, Giddings, Port Lavaca and San Antonio - with a sixth location coming soon in China Spring.

On that same note, this isn't Nacogdoches' only automatic car wash, either. This is the third within the city limits, after Tidal Wave Auto Spa on the corner of Austin and North Street, and Take 5 Car Wash, also located on North Street. There are also several non-automated car washes in and around Nacogdoches, but I don't have the count on all of those.

Now, before you go off on the number of car washes, or how this would have benefitted from being some other type of business, I will remind you of this: The number of donut shops, grocery stores and antiques spots is still higher in the Oldest Town in Texas. Just something to keep in mind.

One Last Look at the University Mall in Nacogdoches - 2019

I walked through the University Mall in Nacogdoches for the last time in 2019. Luckily, I snapped these pictures before I left.
