Frozen Treats Sold in Louisiana and Texas Included in Massive Recall
(KMDL-FM) When it comes to summer time treats, ice cream ranks really close to the top of the list in the Gulf South. Sure, in Louisiana, we love our snowballs in Lafayette, New Iberia, Church Point, and Crowley.
And in Texas, they'll mix you a mean milkshake in Marshall, sell you a snowcone in Stephenville, and procure you a popsicle in Palestine, but when you can't get one of those goodies, ice cream in a cup or a cone, it is an acceptable substitute. Heck, anything frozen and on a stick beats the heck out of discussing the Heat Index, doesn't it?
Usually, when you think of ice cream or frozen treats, you think of relaxing moments of childlike bliss as you savor the sweet goodness and fruity freshness of your chosen flavor. You can double the enjoyment if the ice cream happens to be homemade. One thing none of us think about while eating our ice cream is this. "Am I about to get a life-threatening gastric-related illness because I wanted ice cream"?

Unfortunately for consumers in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin that is a thought that should come to mind if you have made a frozen dessert purchase in the past month or so.
Rich's Ice Cream offers many popular frozen treats out of its Florida headquarters, but unfortunately, the safety of some of those treats has been called into question by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA has issued a recall on some 110,292 cases of various flavors of frozen treats produced by the company.

What Flavors of Rich's Ice Cream Frozen Treats Have Been Recalled?
The treats were distributed and sold in the states we've listed above, and that does include Louisiana and Texas. The desserts in question include:
Chocolate Crunch Cake Bars, Strawberry Shortcake Bars, Rich Bars, Crumbled Cookie Bars, Orange Cream Bars, Fudge Frenzy Bars, Cotton Candy Twirl Bars, Savagely Sour Blue Raspberry Bars, Savagely Sour Cherry Bars, and Cool Watermelon Bars.
The FDA recall notice cites concerns over listeria contamination. Listeria is an illness that is caused by bacteria and can be spread through many foods. The bacteria has been known to survive freezing cold temperatures which is why it is such a concern for these frozen treats.
What Are the Symptoms of Listeria Infections in People?
Many older people, young children, and pregnant women can suffer serious health consequences if exposed to Listeria bacteria. However, most healthy adults can weather the malady with minimal discomfort. Symptoms of a listeria infection include loose stools, upset stomach, and vomiting.
If you do find yourself in possession of some of the recalled treats from Rich's Ice Cream in Florida, you may return the unused portion of the product to its point of purchase. You may then request a refund or a replacement product.
