Legendary Texas Singer/Songwriter Charlie Robison Passes Away
Last weekend, the music world was saddened by the news of the passing of Jimmy Buffett.
This evening (9/10), another terrible jolt was delivered with the news of the death of Texas singer/songwriter Charlie Robison. A report from the Associated Press says that the Houston native passed away in San Antonio from cardiac complications
In 2018, Robison announced his retirement from the music industry. The retirement came about because Robison underwent a surgical procedure and due to complications he was left "with the permanent inability to sing."
In his social media announcement, he made it official in September 2018, "Therefore, with a very heavy heart I am officially retiring from the the stage and studio."
However, four years later, Robison had experienced enough of a recovery that allowed him to announce that he would be returning to touring and producing music. In fact, Robison was one of the featured performers in April at the annual Red Dirt BBQ and Music Festival in Tyler.
Robison was arranging more touring dates during the upcoming Fall and Winter months.
He is survived by his wife, Kristen, along with four children and stepchildren. Three of his children were with his first wife, Emily, who was a member of the country band The Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks. Charlie and Emily divorced in 2008.
Robison had numerous hits on the Red Dirt Music circuit as well as on the national scene. Songs such as Barlight, My Hometown, and I Want You Bad were very popular and received frequent radio airplay.
