Friday night’s 35-21 win against Galveston Ball earned the Lufkin Panther Football team the title of undefeated district champs.

Monday afternoon, Lufkin ISD Superintendent, Dr. James Hockenberry, had the honor of presenting the gold ball to the Pack, “This is a big deal, but I know I know your goals are much bigger than this!”

Quarterback Quincey Coutee confirmed those goals, “Everyone on this team has goals and a job to do, and we work hard to handle our jobs. We come back to the sideline, make adjustments, and the next play we try to be better than the play before.”

We’ve heard Head Coach, Todd Quick, remind the players to take care of their brothers. Coutee said that’s how the team operates. “This is a brotherhood, everyone picking each other up...have a bad play, I’ve got you on the next one.”

“Winning district is a big deal, but our mind has been on a higher goal since last summer,” said Safety, Evan Young. “We’re taking this game by game, week by week. We’ve got a reminder we wear. Coach Sodey got defense these bracelets that say ‘The Next Day’ and that’s what we focus on.”

Young and many of the seniors have been playing together since elementary school.

“It’s a great bunch of kids with higher goals than where we are now,” Quick said. “This is a step and we have more goals to obtain.”

The Lufkin Panthers will host Houston Milby at Abe Martin Stadium, this Saturday, November 16th. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
