Lufkin, Texas Non-profit Agency Receives $430,000 Grant
In the Bible, the 25th chapter of Mark makes it very obvious the emphasis that Jesus puts upon loving and helping our neighbors, especially those that may be going through some tough times. Buckner Children and Family Services in Lufkin is one of the many agencies in our area that puts actions to those words.
HUGE GRANT GOES TO DESERVING LUFKIN AGENCY
There's some great news to report according to a recent media release. Buckner Family Pathways, one of the Lufkin-area programs offered by nonprofit Buckner Children and Family Services, will receive a $430,000 capital grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation.
WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING?
The grant allocates $400,000 to renovate four two-bedroom duplexes into three-bedroom duplexes to better accommodate the needs of larger families. The renovations will also include the addition of four laundry facilities to the campus. The remaining $30,000 will help purchase a generator to provide ongoing power in the event of weather emergencies or utility stoppages.
WHAT DOES BUCKNER DO?
Buckner Family Pathways supports single-parent families in crisis to overcome barriers that prevent self-sufficiency. These barriers include insufficient education, life skills, and housing. In Lufkin, the Family Pathways campus includes 35 affordable apartments for families enrolled in the program.
“We are extremely grateful for the grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation,” said Marisa Phillips, executive director of Buckner Children and Family Services in Lufkin. “We believe stronger families make stronger communities, and as such, the foundation is making a great investment into the future of Lufkin.”
The grant is an example of how the T.L.L. Temple Foundation fulfills its mission by working alongside rural communities to build a thriving East Texas and to alleviate poverty, creating access and opportunities for all.
“Buckner’s focus on families and educational success is aligned with the foundation’s priorities, and this grant continues our history of supporting Buckner Family Pathways,” said Wynn Rosser, president and CEO of the T.L.L. Temple Foundation.
