Mickey Gilley and his son were involved in a car accident in Texas on Wednesday (Jan. 3) that left the country music legend with multiple broken bones.

KFDM reports that the 81-year-old-singer and pianist and his son Michael were traveling through the small town of Lufkin, Texas, on their way to Branson, Mo., where Gilley owns a theater and performs on a regular basis. According to the report, another driver ran a stop sign in front of the 2013 Toyota SUV Michael Gilley was driving. He swerved to try to avoid the other vehicle but ended up clipping it, causing the SUV to roll over and land upside down in the median.

Michael Gilley's wife, Susan, says Mickey Gilley sustained a broken ankle and shoulder in the accident, while Michael is sore, but unharmed. She brought them back to Pasadena after they underwent medical treatment in Lufkin.

Gilley scored a long string of hits in the '70s and '80s that includes "Room Full of Roses," "Stand By Me," "True Love Ways" and "The Power of Positive Drinkin'." His legendary nightclub, Gilley's, served as the main setting for the movie Urban Cowboy. He underwent years of physical therapy after an accident in 2009 left him paralyzed and unable to work. Gilley returned to the stage in a limited capacity at his theater in Branson in 2010, and undertook a national tour in 2014.
