Nacogdoches High School Students Earn Trip to State Science Fair
The East Texas Regional Science Fair was recently held on the campus of Kilgore College. Numerous students representing schools from over 31 East Texas counties competed in this event.
Those counties are Lamar, Red River, Bowie, Delta, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, Morris, Cass, Rains, Wood, Camp, Houston, Leon, Madison, Upshur, Marion, Harrison, Van Zandt, Smith, Henderson, Gregg, Rusk, Panola, Anderson, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Shelby, San Augustine, Sabine and Angelina.
Students were allowed to compete in 12 different categories including Biological, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics/Astronomy, Biochemistry, Biomedical, Earth and Environment, Microbiology, Plant Sciences, Engineering, Energy Studies, and System Software.
At the regional fair in Kilgore, eight Nacogdoches High School STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) students competing with five projects will now be advancing to the state science fair in March at Texas A&M. The students are part of the Stephen F. Austin State University STEM Academy.

David Taravella, Isaac Jones and Ryan Larson – How public transportation affects the rate of drunk driving.
Parker Bobo – Dimpled aircraft wing design
August Wright – Golden Kiwis growth comparison.
Gracen Packard and Murphy Jacobie – Zooxanthellae and Aliivibrio Fischeri: An Affinity Analysis.
The Texas Science and Engineering Fair will take place on March 24-25 at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas.
