Nacogdoches area residents will soon have the opportunity to help the Nacogdoches Independent School District in their need for new construction and improvements.  According to a release from NISD, a special board meeting was held in the Nacogdoches High School library on August 24th where the Nacogdoches ISD school board voted in favor of a $43.3 million bond election.
The school board voted to set the bond election for November 3. The finalized proposal to be voted on in the upcoming bond election consists of new construction
and improvements to existing buildings.

The proposal includes:

  1. A 650 member school on the NE side of Nacogdoches, 78,000 sq. ft. at $180 per sq. ft. for a total of $14,040,000. Fixtures, Furniture and Equipment (FFE) is an additional 18%, $2,527,200 and $3,000,000 for site preparation and acquisition. The total cost for the new facility would be $19,567,200.
  2. A 500 member school on or near the existing location of Carpenter Elementary with
    60,000 sq. ft. at $180 per sq. ft. for a cost of $10,800,000. FFE of 18%, $1,944,000 and
    site preparation of $500,000 brings the total for the new facility to $13,244,000.
  3. McMichael Middle School Addition of 15,000 sq. ft. at $180 per sq. ft. totals to
    $2,700,000. With $300,000 for a FFE, the total for the building addition is $300,000,000.
  4. Deferred Maintenance (including roof work and Capital Projects throughout the District) is $7,500,000.

Total - $43,311,200
Proposed Bond $43,300,000
