An additional school zone and new speed limits are in the plans for Highway 94 in and around the Hudson school district after the Texas Transportation Commission recently approved the changes.

An additional school zone will extend .2 miles on each side of FM 3258 on SH 94 West around Hudson ISD. The speed limit while flashers are activated will be 35 miles per hour. When flashers are not activated, the new speed limit will be 55 mph, reduced from 60 mph.

“This new school zone on SH 94 in Hudson ISD will enhance the safety of all motorists including parents loading and unloading their children and police officers who direct traffic at FM 3258 during peak school zone hours,” said Rhonda Oaks, Lufkin District public information officer. “We are happy to be able to do this for the school and the community and urge drivers to stay alert for flashing school zone lights indicating reduced speed limits.”

The new speed limits go into effect once the signs are set and school begins in August. The work is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
