New Traffic Signal in Huntington Goes Active on Tuesday, June 9

The Texas Department of Transportation is advising motorists driving on Highway 69 in Huntington that a newly installed signal will become operational on Tuesday, June 9. The traffic light is located at the intersection of US Highway 69 and Farm-to-Market Road 1475, adjacent to Brookshire Brothers and the construction area that will soon be the new McDonald's in Huntington.

Portable message boards about the upcoming activation were placed on June 2. The new signal will enhance safety at the intersection for motorists, as well as pedestrians, who now have striped crosswalks with audible alerts. Drivers should follow all traffic control and be prepared to stop. Exercise caution when approaching or moving through the intersection as driver habits adjust to the changes.

The Growing Number of Traffic Signals on Highway 69

The trip from Lufkin to Huntington on Highway 69 was recently a straight shot with no traffic lights until Main Street at the heart of Huntington. However, the increase in traffic on Highway 69, as well as the population surge southeast of Lufkin, has led to the installation of three new signals over the past few years. Two of those traffic lights were installed where Highway 69 intersects with FM 326 South and FM 326 North. These two are separated by less than a mile, and maybe I'm just lucky, but I seem to catch the reds at both lights every time! Of course, the third signal is the one at FM 1475.

Entryways into the new McDonald's are planned from Highway 69 and FM 1475. Meanwhile, officials at Brookshire Brothers plan to open a second entrance beside McDonald's.
