A local event recognizing Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is being planned for October 15. Dr. Cheryl Suiter, Obstetrician/Gynecologist, is leading the initiative and hopes to make this an annual event.

“So many families grieve in silence when they lose their pregnancy or infant,” states Dr. Suiter. “We wanted to put together a local event that will offer support, fellowship and healing and bring awareness to the difficult circumstances these families find themselves in.”

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month and a worldwide event is held on October 15 where candles are lit at 7 pm across all time zones for all the babies that are gone too soon. The vision for this national event was to recognize a day when all grieving parents could come together and be surrounded by love and support, a day where the community could better understand their pain and learn how to reach out to those grieving.

The local event in Lufkin will be held at Carroway Funeral Home (located at 2704 S. John Redditt Drive) on Tuesday, October 15 beginning at 6:30 pm.

The candle lighting ceremony will take place at 7 pm in conjunction with the international wave of light celebrating remembrance of pregnancy, infant, and child loss. The community is invited to attend.
