
The Riff Runners Next Free Concert is This Friday in Lufkin
The Riff Runners are back on stage Friday, March 6th, at 7 pm in Hudgins Hall on the Angelina College campus for their Winter Concert. This talented group of local musicians brings a crowd-pleasing mix of musical styles and plenty of energy to warm up your evening. This community big band, directed by Dixon Shanks, features some of the finest musicians from Angelina and surrounding counties.
What Kind of Music Do The Riff Runners Play?
This concert's set list includes a couple of songs from Elvis (Suspicious Minds and Treat Her Right), a huge hit from Stevie Wonder (For Once In My Life), a Glen Campbell classic (Wichita Lineman), and even an AC/DC rocker (Back in Black). Thanks to a sponsorship by Casa Ole in Lufkin, the concert is free to attend.
The Riff Runners include a 5-piece saxophone section, 4 trombonists, 4-piece trumpet section, 5-piece rhythm section, backing vocals by the Dixon Chicks, and band leader and lead vocalist, Dixon Shanks.
Fast Fact: One of the trombone players is 95 years young!
The Riff Runners present several of these free shows each year. Their next concert is scheduled for April 25. So, make plans to enjoy the music and celebrate another great night of the arts at Angelina College. Since this is a free event, you're encouraged to arrive at Hudgins Hall early, as seats will fill up quickly.
