Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued for Parts of the Pineywoods
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for East Texas including the Houston Metro, Lufkin/Nacogdoches and portions of the Brazos Valley. The Watch continues until 1 pm. The Deep East Texas counties included are Angelina, Nacogdoches, Houston, Trinity, Tyler, Polk, Jasper, Newton, Sabine, Shelby and San Augustine.
An approaching cold front is expected to trigger an outbreak of strong storms across the area is it moves in from our west. Some of the severe thunderstorm cells could produce half dollar to golf ball sized hail, gusty winds up to 70 mph and an isolated tornado may also occur. The severe weather outbreak is expected to be more widespread across Louisiana, Mississippi and into Alabama.
Some of the downpours in Deep East Texas today could produce more than an inch of rain. This could lead to some isolated instances of localized flooding, especially considering the amount of recent rains that we have experienced.

The severe weather threat for the Pineywoods should diminish by mid- to late afternoon. We should have clearing skies by this evening with cooler temperatures as we dip into the mid-50s tonight. In fact, the weather from tonight through Saturday is expected to be very nice. High temperatures should be near 80 with overnight lows in the mid to upper 50s.
