Severe Weather, Flooding Expected Overnight in East Texas
3:30 am - Severe thunderstorm warnings are in place for Angelina, Nacogdoches, and Cherokee counties until 4:30. Wind gusts to 70 mph and penny to quarter sized hail can be expected.
Let's go ahead and start with the good news. The weather for the upcoming Easter weekend should be wonderful. We'll have lots of sunshine with highs in the 70s and 80s. But, now for the bad news. We're going to have another round of severe weather across the Pineywoods.
I know, I know, please don't hurt the messenger.
If anywhere in the U.S. deserved a break from nasty weather, it would be us in Deep East Texas. If Oklahoma is considered tornado alley, what should we call the area from Kennard to Alto...tornado boulevard?
According to the forecasters, our best chance of severe weather tonight will happen between 1 am and 7 am. Another widespread tornado outbreak in our area is not expected to happen, however, an isolated twister or two is not out of the question. Golf ball sized hail, winds gusting to 70 mph, and rainfall amounts between 1-3 inches are very possible across the region late tonight. In fact, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect beginning at 7 pm Wednesday evening and continuing through Friday morning for Nacogdoches and Shelby counties. This watch extends to other counties/parishes to the north and east.
Areas to the north and west of us run a greater risk of widespread severe weather.
