One Of The Biggest Games in Homer Bryce Stadium History Happens This Saturday
In the fall of 1995, the biggest game in the history of Homer Bryce Stadium was played in Nacogdoches when the 2nd-ranked SFA Lumberjacks hosted the top-ranked McNeese State Cowboys. Approximately 25,000 fans packed into the stadium to watch the 'Jacks fall to McNeese, 34-16, but SFA would still advance three rounds deep into the FCS playoffs before being eliminated in Missoula by the University of Montana.
Now, 35 years later, SFA Football is getting ready to host another major contest. In fact, Saturday's game against Lamar is being called the biggest game at Homer Bryce since the 1995 showdown.

What Makes This Saturday's Game So Big?
The Southland Conference title is on the line this Saturday. SFA is undefeated in league play, while Lamar has only one loss in the conference. A win by the Lumberjacks pretty much guarantees SFA the Southland title and an automatic bid into the FCS playoffs. If the Cardinals win, Lamar would be in a three-way tie for first; however, with wins over SFA and SE Louisiana, Lamar would be in the driver's seat for the league championship.
Both teams are ranked in the top 20 in the nation, and the kickoff has been moved to 4 p.m. so the game can be televised nationally on ESPNU. No matter the sport, Lamar fans travel well, so a lot of visiting red colors will be widespread throughout Homer Bryce, which is why SFA Head Coach Colby Carthel is encouraging SFA fans to fill the stadium with a sea of purple.
There are only two Division I college football teams in the state that are undefeated in conference play. Texas A&M is one, and the Lumberjacks are the other. This game should be high-drama and super-entertaining, so bring your family and friends and cheer on the 'Jacks....Axe 'em!!
