If you've piled up some unpaid tolls from traveling around Houston, Dallas, or on Texas 49, there's a little financial break coming March 1st thanks to a new state law. But you can still end up in court if you don't pay up!

As a parent, if you get a letter this year from your child's school saying a classmate has head lice, it's because a new Texas law requires the school to send it. But there is one instance that will remain undercover, and parents will never know.

If you really want a new fancy new tablet or iPad, take your driver's license with you to buy it. Texas has a new law that kicks in next January, that will allow a store to decline your credit card purchase if you forget your ID.

For some drivers needing a Texas license after September 1, there's a new course that you'll have to take. Without it, you can't get a license!

The new texting and driving ban signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott takes effect in another six weeks, but there are some things we need to know now to prep for it. Like how high are the fines?

We know you always obey the seat belt law and buckle up, but just in case you need some encouragement, the annual Click it or Ticket campaign starts Monday, and officers will be looking to hand tickets to unbuckled folks. And what's the rule for the kids and booster seats?

Maybe you've driven by a house and seen a dog outside chained to a tree or a stake.  That situation would become illegal under a new bill before Texas lawmakers, in certain situations.

It's something I can safely say you will never do, and it involves your eyeball.  But just in case you're thinking about it, I'll mention that it's illegal, and I"ll save you some time in court.

I think the real question here is: does Texas need it?

Ask any public school educated Texan that question and the answer would probably be "yes".
