February is Heart Month, and KICKS 105 and CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial in Lufkin are 'All Heart' on the Merrell in the Morning Show today.  Between 6am - 10am we're not playing any commercials as we dedicate the entire show to providing you information from heart surgeons, doctors, and experts that could go a long way in helping you live a longer and healthier life.

Let's start with what you should do if you think you're having a heart attack.  For this subject we interviewed Dr. Amanda Parker-Nylund.  She is the System Medical Director and Site Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial in Lufkin.  Dr. Nylund is also the EmCare West Division Regional Medical Director.

According to Dr. Nylund, when it comes to heart attacks, time is of the essence.  There is a common phrase when it comes to treating heart attack victims - time is muscle.  The quicker someone having a heart event can get treatment, the better their chances of saving of more heart muscle.

Dr. Nylund is quick to point out that you should always err on the side of safety in the event of chest pain or other classic heart attack symptoms. You should never feel foolish about calling 9-1-1 or going to the ER when you think your life is in danger, even if the final diagnosis ends up being less severe.

Did you know that heart attack symptoms can vary greatly from women to men?  If you're having chest pains, what can you expect when you go to the emergency room?  How busy is the CHI St Luke's Health Memorial Emergency Room compared to others in comparable sized cities?

Find out below with our interview with Dr. Nylund.
