Tim McGraw Wins Battle Against Curb Records
It seems that Tim McGraw‘s next 30 years will be even sweeter than the last. A judge has ruled in favor of the ‘Felt Good on My Lips’ hitmaker in his legal battle with Curb Records, which means that the chains have been cut and he’s free to record new music apart from the label.
According to the Tennessean, McGraw hugged both his wife, Faith Hill, and his attorney when he got the good news in court on Wednesday, and said that he is “just very happy” with the outcome.
The singer first signed with Curb 21 years ago and in recent years had been feeling eager to release new music to his fans, but he was tied down by their five album deal.
It has been two years since McGraw released ‘Southern Voice,’ his most recent album with all-new material. Now that he’s got the freedom to hit the studio again, McGraw plans to take full advantage. “I really feel like there’s a lot more ahead of me than behind me,” he said in an interview last month. ”I’m really just starting to figure out what I want to do and the music I want to make. I’m only about 30 percent into my career. It’s been foothills until now.”
The court proceedings with Curb Records will continue in July, but that will only be to determine if there was a breech in McGraw’s contract, and if damages are owed as a result of the dispute. McGraw will kick off an Australian tour — hopefully with new music — on March 14.
