This Golf Course on Lake Livingston Has Once Again Been Named #1 in Texas

Whispering Pines Golf Club is located about 90 miles north of Houston, along the extreme northwestern shore of Lake Livingston.

This 400-acre secluded course near Trinity has once again been named the #1 golf course in the state of Texas by Golf Digest. It's the only course in Deep East or northeast Texas that made the top 40 in the state.

The 400-acre property features piney woods, creeks, lakes, natural dunes, and abundant wildlife. This video from the 2025 Robertson Cup Invitational shows some of the beautiful scenery from the golf course.

Honors Are Nothing New for Whispering Pines

Since 2006, Whispering Pines has been ranked the #1 course in Texas by the Dallas Morning News. Whispering Pines has also been recognized as the #11 overall Greatest Golf Retreat in America by Golf Digest and in 2009 became ranked as one of the Top 100 Best Courses in America by Golf Magazine.

Whispering Pines doesn't rest on its laurels. In 2020, the course was entirely re-grassed with Zeon Zoysia in the fairways and rough and TifEagle Bermuda on the greens.

All of the greens were completely rebuilt, including several that were totally redesigned, and all tee boxes were leveled with several new tees added. The course’s bunkers were also rebuilt, with some eliminated and others added.

My Brush With Greatness at Whispering Pines

Since 2001, Whispering Pines has been home to The Spirit International Amateur Golf Championship, a biennial tournament that showcases the best men and women amateur golfers from around the world.

In 2003, I had the privilege to golf as a guest in the players' practice round. For several holes, I got to play with Brandt Snedeker.

He would turn pro in 2004, and since that time, he has 9 PGA Tour wins and over $41 million in career earnings.
