Weekend Box Office: ‘New Year’s Eve’ Toasts a First Place Finish
It took a movie with a zillion stars to do it, but ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn’ has finally been knocked off its perch at the top of the charts. Despite blistering reviews, ‘New Year’s Eve’ brought in $13.7 million in its debut, making it the most popular movie at the box office this weekend.
Jonah Hill’s comedy ‘The Sitter’ had a $10 million haul, followed by — yes — the ‘Twilight’ film, which continued to print money by selling $7.9 million in tickets.
‘The Muppets’ came in fourth with $7 million, while ‘Arthur Christmas’ rounded out the top five with $6.6 million in revenues.
