We have a bit of a herd of pets in my house: two dogs and four cats.

Gryffin Merrell is a 2-year-old blond and white retriever mix. She got her name as part of a compromise between my kids. My son’s favorite basketball player is Blake Griffin. My youngest daughter is a Harry Potter fan…so Gryffindor. We adopted Gryffin when a friend found her abandoned as a puppy along a country roadside.

Scrat Merrell is a 7-year-old white Pomeranian/Chihuahua mix. She was brought home to us by our oldest daughter who found her roaming around Hudson. She was named Scrat because she reminded us of the squirrel with the same name from the Ice Age animated movie. She has a slight bit of paralysis in her hind end due to an accident, but that doesn’t stop her from running and playing.

I really appreciate West Loop Animal Clinic’s approach to veterinary care. Here are a few reasons why:

Convenient hours: They just recently added evening hours for walk-ins and emergencies from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That's great for families who work a little later or who are busy with sports or other activities!

Emphasis on preventative care: Our pets can't talk to us to tell us when something isn't right, so West Loop Animal Clinic offers preventative care plans tailored to your pets' needs, including specialized care for puppies and kittens.

Boarding: If you have to leave your pets for a few days, it's so nice to be able to board them with staff that already knows them and their background.

Expertise: Dr. Richards has more than 17 years of veterinarian experience.
