Woodland Heights Medical Center has announced the arrival of a new physician. Dr. Mario Matos-Cruz will be taking over at Woodland Heights Cardiothoracic Associates, as current surgeon Dr. David Sees is retiring.

 “I am excited to be in Lufkin and part of the medical staff at Woodland Heights Medical Center,” states Dr. Matos-Cruz. “I am looking forward to becoming part of the community and continuing the tradition of quality cardiac care at Woodland Heights.”

 Dr. Matos-Cruz is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon with many years of experience in all aspects of heart, lung, and vascular surgery. He is well-positioned to advance the cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery programs at Woodland Heights Medical Center. He most recently practiced at Baptist Health in Kentucky and Trinity Health in Ohio.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Matos-Cruz join the team at Woodland Heights as he brings a wealth of experience to Lufkin and Woodland Heights,” states Woodland Heights Medical Center CEO Jose A. Echavarria. “Dr. Sees will certainly be missed and we wish him well in retirement.”
