The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is one of the newest features at Universal Orlando, and it is wildly popular - and with great reasons.

I will pass along some of those great reasons in a later blog as I continue to give updates from the Merrell Family Vacation, but let's talk about beer.  Butterbeer, that is.   Now, butterbeer does have some origins back to medieval times, however, it is really a conjured up drink that only exists in the world of Harry Potter and his series of stories from J.K. Rowling.

However, leave it to the creative geniuses of Universal to come up with a concoction that is safe for all ages to drink, delicious, and sure to give kids enough of a sugar high to ride rides into the wee hours of the night.

As for me and my kids...we loved it.  But, it can only be drunk in moderation, not because of any alcohol content, but because of the sugar content.  It takes like a creamier than creamy, cream soda with a hint of butterscotch flavor, and all this flavor is also encaptured in a thick, foamy head.

I was able to find several recipes, but two of those seemed to have the best reviews.  First, their was a recipe that was a bit more involved which used true butter.  And another recipe which went straight to butterscotch flavoring and was much easier to make.  If you try either one, let us know what you think.
