You Really Should Try Nina’s Tacos Y Mas in Lufkin, Texas
Several weeks ago, I saw some notices on social media that a new Mexican restaurant had opened in Lufkin. The name of the business is Nina's Tacos Y Mas. I like to do stories on newly opened businesses in the area so that area residents can get a few more details on what they offer.
At first, I thought Nina's Tacos Y Mas was either a food truck or a small express-type drive-thru restaurant. I decided to take a visit to their location at 1005 E. Denman Avenue. I was in for some very wonderful surprises.
First, Nina's has a spacious dining area to relax and enjoy your breakfast, lunch, or dinner. If you are in a hurry, they also offer a convenient drive-thru lane as well.
Now, let's talk about their food. I've lived in East Texas for over 30 years, and Nina's Tacos Y Mas serves some of the best Mexican food that I've had in that time. In fact, some of their dishes take me back to my youth. I'm Hispanic on my mom's side of the family, and she was the 13th of 13 kids. So, when I was growing up we would have many large family gatherings with my aunts, cousins, and my Abuelita loading me up on barbacoa, Menudo, Arroz, fresh from scratch tortillas, fideo, and much more.
The delicious flavors at Nina's Tacos Y Mas took me back to that time. Everything that I was served was outstanding, but you've got to try their Birria Tacos and Birriamen. The corn tortillas are fried and then filled with meat, cilantro, onions, and more, then you can dip it into the succulent consommé...it is paradise! The Birriamen is a combination of ramen with all the meat, flavoring, and consomme, and it's served as a delicious broth. Both of these described are pictured below.
Nina's Tacos Y Mas is open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. I haven't tried their breakfast yet, but I can't wait to do so.
Oh, and be sure to try some of their watermelon, pineapple, and cantaloupe drinks. Take a look at their menu below.
