DPS Releases Details on Friday’s Fatal Accident in Zavalla, Texas

The Texas Department of Public Safety has released details on a fatal one-car accident that took place Friday night in Zavalla, Texas. One person was killed in the crash and one person was seriously injured.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers who are investigating the incident say the crash took place on State Highway 63, at the intersection of State Highway 147.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 9:25 p.m., a Chevrolet SUV was traveling west. It is reported that the driver was traveling at a speed that was unsafe around a curve and left the roadway to the right and overturned.

The driver, identified as 79-year-old Earl Knockaert of Grapeland, was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff. His passenger, 78-year-old Mary Knockaert, was transported to CHI St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. No updates have been provided on the condition of the passenger.
