I think a majority of folks who live in the eastern half of Texas are ready for some normalcy to return to the weather.

The recent Polar Plunge brought a wintry mix of weather from Dallas to the Ark-La-Tex, and then all the way down to the coastline. It also brought temperature readings to at least 30 degrees below normal.

It would be nice to have several days of our normal 60 degrees for a daytime high, and around 40 for a nighttime low.

Mother Nature Has Other Ideas

Forecasters are predicting that East Texas will be teased with one day of warmer temperatures before another Arctic air mass blasts through, then get ready for downpours that could bring flooding issues.

...but for less than 24 hours. We will get near 65, but by later Thursday night, here comes another mass of cold air.

Chilly (But Dry) Weekend

The good news is that no precipitation is expected with this next Arctic wave. But, Friday through Sunday temperatures will be about 10-20 degrees below normal.

That means highs in the low to mid-40s and lows between 20-25 degrees. It will also be rather breezy Friday and Friday night, so we could wind chills in the single digits early Saturday morning.

Flooding Downpours?

Warmer air starts to filter back into East Texas by Sunday night, but along with that will come rain chances. Heavy downpours are expected in the eastern third of Texas Monday through Wednesday.

This is still considered a medium-range forecast, but the National Weather Service pegs many parts of the Pineywoods to receive 2-4 inches of rain early next week. Other weather models show half a foot or more of rain could fall anywhere from Tyler to Galveston.

Temperatures will remain in the 50s next Monday and Tuesday, so icy conditions won't be an issue, but, flooding may be.
