When Do Deep East Texas Schools Start Up Classes? Here's The List

Raise your hand if you remember when most schools in Texas started near the Labor Day holiday. I recall staying up late to watch the MDA Telethon with Jerry Lewis and then getting ready for school to start on the following Tuesday. In other words...I'm old.

I've looked at numerous school calendars from Deep East Texas school districts, and most are having their first day of classes by mid-August. Of course, teachers and other staff have to start at least a week before the kids show up. Nearly 25 area school districts will open their doors for the first day of class on Wednesday, August 12, including Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Hudson, and Huntington. Which school districts get the award for starting the new semester first? Congratulations to Corrigan-Camden, Latexo, Leggett, and PCA. They start classes on Monday, August 3.
