80% of People have Cried on the Job
A new study from Monster claims that 8 out of 10 people have cried at work. Read that one more time, 8 OUT OF 10!
What does that mean about us as a society? Is our work environment that hostile? Of course there are those that say, suck it up buttercup, but with that logic 8 out of 10 people must be buttercups.
Monster reported surveying 3,000 people, and a whopping 45% of employees revealed that they had cried on the job due to their bosses or co-workers. More than 15% of workers have wept on the job because of their workload. Oh, and let's not forget the other 13% of people who have cried on duty because of workplace bullying.
The topic is something I've ruminated over before, and seeing the actual statistics is a little frightening. Children are expected to cry, but crying adults are judged harshly, especially at the workplace.
Hopefully, this survey will demonstrate to employers how much the work environment actually affects its workers.
I'll be the first to admit that I have definitely cried at some of my jobs. Have you ever cried at work? Did you wait till you got home to let out your sorrows? Are you the 20% that has never shed a tear on the job? Let us know by commenting below.
