A Former Texas Trooper is Heading to Jail for Taking Bribes
A state trooper was sentenced this week to more than a year in prison for taking money from trucking companies in exchange for favorable inspections.
Kevin Gerard Cauley of Rockwall was sentenced earlier this week in Dallas after pleading guilty last summer to honest services wire fraud. The AP says Cauley worked in commercial vehicle enforcement and received at least $4,000 from a trucking company owner in exchange things like top-level safety clearance, and to avoid having to stop at highway inspection stations.
The trucking company owner is also facing charges and is waiting on a sentence.
Cauley doesn't work for the Texas Department of Public Safety anymore, and was a sergeant in 2014 and 2015 when the apparent violations happened.
So on that note, thanks DPS officers for keeping us all safe. We know it's not an easy job and sometimes it's totally thankless, but we appreciate ya. And thanks to local East Texas officers too. Ya all have a lot to deal with and we just want you to know we've noticed.
Have a great weekend everybody.
