Angelina Beautiful/Clean (AB/C) is holding the 10th Annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection and Electronics Collection Day presented by Lockheed Martin in partnership with the City of Lufkin, Angelina County, McWilliams & Son, CMC Commercial Metals and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. The event will take place Saturday, March 2nd from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the City of Lufkin Recycling Center located at 500 Southpark Drive in Lufkin.

AB/C holds the event to kick off the spring season alongside the national Keep America Beautiful campaign called the Great American Cleanup. The nationwide event engages more than 5 million volunteers and participants, on average, every year to create a positive and lasting impact on our environment. Part of the mission of AB/C is to inspire people to take action every day to improve and beautify their community environment through programs like the Great American Cleanup.

The annual Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection event serves hundreds of households across over a dozen different zip codes to ensure that hazardous materials are properly disposed of and recycled when possible. In an effort to cut down on illegal dumping in Angelina County and surrounding areas, this convenient drive-thru service is provided to the community at no charge. Proper disposal also helps to minimize health risks to the public and environment.

“Providing resources to our rural communities gives access to citizens that may not be able to get hold of them otherwise,” said Jennifer La Corte, Angelina Beautiful/Clean Executive Director. “We are the closest annual event in the area outside of the Houston and Longview/Tyler area. It’s our way of helping East Texas stay environmentally healthy and economically sound by curbing illegal dumping, landfill deterioration and protecting our vital water sources. We are proud to be the recipient of a grant from Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) this year to continue to offer this event to serve all of East Texas. It’s great to know that we are providing such a useful service when we see people drive from as far away as two hours just to participate.”

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is a FREE event, but tax-deductible donations to the non-profit are greatly appreciated. This collection is for households only. Large quantities from businesses, farms, or commercial operations will not be accepted. Please utilize this opportunity to keep these hazards out of our waterways and natural environment.
