AC Softball Lands Five on All-Conference Team

When you have the kind of success that the Angelina College softball team has had this season, which includes record setting totals in wins and homers, you're bound to put a few players on the Region XIV All-Conference team.

According to a press release from the college, the Angelina College Lady Roadrunners placed a total of five players on that list.

Kali Holcomb, Kaylee Parker and Miranda Wiggins earned First-Team All-Conference honors, while Lauren Garza and Taylor Davis earned Second-Team nods.

Holcomb, (top right) a sophomore centerfielder from Permian High School in Odessa, led the league with 71 RBI while setting AC’s new single-season home-run mark with 18. Holcomb hit .360 with a slugging percentage of .736 and stole five bases.

The versatile Parker, (bottom left) a sophomore from Hudson High School, landed on the list as an infielder after playing first base, the outfield and pitching. Parker bashed 16 homers and drove in 63 runs – second behind Holcomb among league leaders – while hitting .438 with a whopping .813 slugging percentage.

Wiggins, (top center) a sophomore shortstop from Barbers Hill High School in Mont Belvieu, hit .438 with an on-base percentage of .535. Wiggins finished third in the league with stolen bases with 19.

Garza, (top left) a sophomore third baseman from Seven Lakes High School in Katy, led the team in runs scored with 57. Hitting in the leadoff spot for most of the season, Garza hit .367 with an on-base percentage of .445 and finished with 10 homers and 29 RBI.

Davis, (bottom center) the sophomore designated player from Nederland High School, broke the school’s all-time home run record, adding 12 in 2017 to go with the 17 she belted in 2016. Davis hit .406 with a slugging percentage of .668 while compiling an on-base percentage of .517. Davis also drew 46 walks in 187 at-bats.

The Lady Roadrunners open the 2017 Region XIV Softball Tournament against San Jacinto College Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Angelina College’s Roadrunner Complex.
