Did The Beach Boys Mention Lufkin, Texas in ‘Good Vibrations’?
I have been a fan of The Beach Boys since the late 1960s, so I was deeply saddened upon hearing the news of Brian Wilson's passing on June 11.
When I had a few moments of downtime, I went online to watch videos of some of my favorite songs. I've always been drawn to their ballads, such as 'Surfer Girl' and 'In My Room'.
Check out this crazy throwback to 1964 and a live performance of 'In My Room'.
Did The Beach Boys Mention Lufkin in 'Good Vibrations'?
I was watching the video to 'Good Vibrations' when something caught my ear.
The song was released in 1966 and was produced and composed by Brian Wilson. No other song from The Beach Boys featured the altering changes in structure, texture, and mood of this song.
Halfway through 'Good Vibrations', the music softens and slows. The vocals repeat:
"...Gotta keep those lovin' good vibrations a-happenin' with her..."
At least, that's what the lyric sheet shows. But this is what I heard.
"...Gotta keep those Lufkin vibrations a-happening' with her..."
It sounds more like 'Lufkin' the second and third time the line is repeated. Take a listen and see what you think (the video is set to start at that bridge).
Of course, The Beach Boys are NOT singing Lufkin. It's just one of many songs that have misheard lyrics.

Let's close with a test. Can you identify the song titles of the lyrics above?
