How about some good news.  The construction to build an overpass at the intersection of U.S. 59 and FM 2021 in Redland is about 6 weeks ahead of schedule and this means that a traffic switch is set to occur next week.  Texas Department of Transportation spokeswoman Kathi White said if weather conditions allow, the contractor could move FM 2021 traffic to the northbound ramp by as soon as Tuesday, July 1. The switch would keep FM 2021 traffic from crossing the high-volume, fast-moving U.S. 59 traffic.  Work would then begin to excavate the U.S.59/FM 2021 intersection for construction of the bridge. Cross traffic will resume once the bridge and approaches are complete. Until then, motorists will need to turn around outside the limits of the project before continuing on to FM 2021.

“By separating traffic at the intersection of these two roadways, you improve safety and mobility for motorists,” White said. “This overpass will take FM 2021 traffic over U.S. 59.”

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit throughout the project has been reduced to 50 mph. The project is expected to be completed in December 2015. Motorists are also reminded to slow down, be patient and to obey all traffic control devices in the work zone. Remember, traffic fines double when workers are present.
