We'll get to the answer in just a bit.

What is the Corrigan US 59 Relief Route?

Highway 59 is transitioning into Interstate 69 in East Texas. Several construction projects need to be completed for this to happen. A few have already been completed, others are ongoing, while many others are years away from getting underway.

The Corrigan US 59 Relief Route is a project that involves the construction of a four-lane relief route west of Corrigan. The proposed improvements will also be designed to meet interstate standards for potential future designation as I-69.

When finished, this 7-mile-long relief route will bypass the Corrigan Schools, the Highway 59/287 traffic light, and the main business district of the town.

Proposed Timeline of the Corrigan Relief Route

Construction began in the fall of  2022. It was estimated that this $173 million project would be completed (weather permitting) by the end of summer 2028.

By comparison, the Diboll Highway 59 Relief Route started in 2020. As of a few weeks ago, the northbound section of that route is open to traffic. The southbound relief route remains closed. TxDOT expects the Diboll Relief Route to be completed by the end of the upcoming winter.
