Diboll Relief Route Takes Step Forward With Opening of Southbound Lanes
The tarp that obscures the southbound Diboll Relief access sign will soon be removed.
Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) have announced that beginning Thursday, construction crews will start the process of redirecting traffic from the current lanes of U.S Highway 59 to the newly constructed southbound interstate lanes. This will bring the Diboll Relief Route project, which started in 2020, one step closer to full completion.
What To Expect On Highway 59 This Thursday
Lane closures will be implemented at the northern end of the project, near FM 2108 in Burke, and at White Oak Creek, south of Diboll. Travelers heading into Diboll along Business 59, or to Connor Road, will be redirected to take the FM 2108 exit. Signs will be in place to direct them to the appropriate route.
Angelina County Airport traffic will continue to use the existing detour signs directing them to the Business 59/Conner Road access. The relief-route interchanges for FM 2108, Conner Road, Lumberjack Road, and FM 1818 will be open to traffic.

What Lies Ahead For The Diboll Relief Route?
Motorists should pay close attention to new signage installed along the road and watch for workers and equipment moving in the area. Although this is a major step forward in the construction, there are still several more months of work to be done before the project is completed. TxDOT officials have earmarked the end of the upcoming winter as when all the construction and finishing touches will be done.
Once the southbound Diboll Relief Route is operational, the city of Diboll will be bypassed as another segment of Interstate 69 is put into place. The northbound portion of the relief route opened to traffic at the end of May.
