If you're an owner of a handgun, don't plan on getting ammunition for it at your local Walmart stores anymore. According to a letter to Walmart associates from Doug McMillon, CEO of Walmart, they are discontinuing the sales of handgun ammunition in their stores. However, that wasn't the only thing that they have stopped.

Once they sell through the handgun ammunition that they already have in stock, they will discontinue all sales of it. Then, they will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska. That will be their final exit from handgun sales, altogether. You will not be able to purchase anything handgun related in Walmart stores, anywhere.

In addition to that, they are also going to stop carrying other certain types of ammo. They will sell their remaining inventory of short-barrel rifle ammo, such as 5.56 caliber and .223 caliber. The reasoning behind this is that these particular types of ammo can "be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons".

The Walmart CEO has also made it known that they are requesting that customers no longer openly carry firearms into their stores, even in states like Texas where open-carry is permitted - with the exception of authorized law enforcement. They have not changed their policy on concealed-carry for people with permits.

This all comes in response to the mass shootings that have taken place over the last month, with the most recent ones taking place in Midland and Odessa this past weekend.
