
Projected Daily Rainfall Totals for East Texas Memorial Day Weekend
The Memorial Day weekend is coming up. It's considered the unofficial launch of the summer season. This holiday weekend is synonymous with activities like a trip to the lake or beach, cookouts and picnics, and numerous other outdoor recreational events. The timing of this year's Memorial Day coincides with several graduation ceremonies as well as baseball and softball playoffs. If your plans involve taking in any of these festivities, here's some advice: take an umbrella.
Memorial Day Weekend Forecast for East Texas
Most weather models agree that several inches of rain will fall throughout the Pineywoods from Wednesday through Memorial Day Monday. The heaviest rainfall amounts are predicted in the Houston/Galveston Metro area. Occasional downpours could lead to flash flooding throughout the next several days. A few thunderstorms are also expected, but east and southeast Texas should stay clear of severe weather, or so they say.
Day by Day Look At Expected East Texas Rainfall Totals
The National Weather Service in Shreveport is making the following daily rainfall predictions for the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area:
- Wednesday - Up to a quarter inch of rain is expected from a few scattered showers/storms.
- Thursday - Showers and thunderstorms become more widespread, especially during the afternoon and evening. An inch of rain or more should be pretty common.
- Friday - A quarter to a half inch of rain is predicted to fall from showers throughout the day. Rain chances diminish a little by late Friday evening.
- Saturday - Afternoon and evening downpours could bring another inch of rain to Deep East Texas.
- Sunday - Let's call this 'deluge day'. Pick any time on Sunday, and heavy downpours are a strong possibility. Forecasters believe 2.5 inches of rain will be common in East Texas.
- Monday - Another half inch to an inch of rain is expected on Memorial Day. The threat of flash flooding could be higher on Monday due to the expected ground saturation from Sunday's rain.
Add all these together, and 5 to 6 inches of accumulated rain could be the norm across Deep East Texas.
