Featured Games of the Week

We usually feature one game each week, but there are several matchups with huge playoff implications that are our marquee games this week.

Teague @ Diboll

Diboll's road to the playoffs improved drastically with their win over Crockett last Friday. If Diboll beats Teague, the Lumberjacks are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, probably as the district's 3rd place team. If Diboll loses, they still have a good chance for the playoffs as long as Crockett loses to state-ranked Fairfield. If Crockett pulls off a major upset, then the final two playoff spots from this district get really muddy. Prediction: Teague needs the win more than Diboll to secure a playoff spot, and they've been playing some great football over the past two weeks. I think Teague wins, and they, along with Diboll, both make the playoffs. Teague 34, Diboll 27

Garrison @ Joaquin

The playoff picture for the very tough District 11-2A, Div I, seems to be pretty clear. San Augustine will be the district champs. The game between Garrison and Joaquin will decide 2nd and 3rd place in the district, and unless Hemphill pulls off a major upset over Shelbyville, the Dragons will secure the district's final spot in the playoffs. Prediction: I think the home field gives Joaquin a slight edge in this game. Joaquin 30, Garrison 27

Lovelady @ Grapeland

District 11-2A, Div. II is also pretty well set when it comes to the playoff picture. Barring any major upsets, Mt. Enterprise will advance as the district champs, Overton will get the final playoff spot, and the Lovelady/Grapeland game will decide the 2nd and 3rd place spots of the district. Prediction: It may seem strange to talk about Lovelady's great defense after giving up 82 points to Mt. Enterprise, but nobody has been able to stop Kaegan Ash and company. It's a close one, but I give the edge to the Lions. Lovelady 31, Grapeland 28
